MINNESOTA STATE MEET

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Junior Robert Mechura of Roseville Area only lost once this season and that was a third-place finish at the Roy Griak Invitational.

The only Minnesotan to beat Mechura was Minneapolis Southwest senior Sam Scott, who was second at Roy Griak.

On Saturday at the Minnesota state cross country championships at Les Bolstad Golf Course, Mechura was able to close a gap Scott opened on him, and kicked to the victory of the AAA boys race in 15:04.2. Scott, who finished second for the second straight year, was next in 15:07.1.

Wayzata won the boys and girls teams titles for the second year in a row.

The boys scored 63 points, with Will Weber taking third and Daniel McCollor finishing ninth.

Norah Hushagen of Forest Lake won the girls AAA race by 33 seconds in 17:27.6. Mia Hoffman from Bemidji edged out Wayzata's Jazleen Malherek-Osorio for second, 18:00.3 to 18:00.6.

Wayzata put five in the top 26 and scored 48 points.

Eli Hall from Pequot Lakes won the Class AA boys race in 15:13.3 and won by nearly 11 seconds. He ran a minute faster than he did in the 2022 meet when he was 13th.

Mankato East won the team championship with all five scorers in the top 28.

Isabelle Schmitz from Hutchinson won the AA girls race in 17:56.5 and it was her second title. She won in 2021 and was second last year.
